Several years ago, about the middle of April and it is about 25 miles to the island.
This year, the March 17th. MODIS pictures show lots of blue water and not much ice on the lake. The island still has plenty of white showing though.
To most, this is just a pile of wolf poop. For the researchers, this poop can provide lots of information. Not just what they were eating and how healthy, but it is also used to mark their territory.
