Middle of summer and the ferns have taken over.
The trail is really there and the Trail Crew cleared it in the spring, but ferns grow rapidly when conditions are ideal. 
To most, this is just a pile of wolf poop. For the researchers, this poop can provide lots of information. Not just what they were eating and how healthy, but it is also used to mark their territory.
